CONNECT! Storytelling Sessions
Facilitated reflective spaces to engage your team
CONNECT!
When individuals feel connected to their colleagues, they are more likely to feel motivated and engaged at work. This leads to increased productivity, job satisfaction, and overall well-being.
Research shows that positive relationships at work improve health. There is an increasing expectation that organisations do more for the physical, mental, and social health of its employees.
Research shows that sharing stories in protected and boundaried spaces can bring about the normalising of emotions, promote connectedness, change narratives, and create a culture of openness (source).
The World Health Organisation has created a Special Commission on Social Connection in response to the public health crisis of loneliness. Its inaugural report highlights the importance of investing in improving social health globally to combat the adverse health outcomes associated with physical, ideological, and spiritual isolation.
Research shows that social connectedness can lead to longer, healthier lives, and improved well-being. We humans are social creatures. Our need for connection is a fundamental, biologically-driven aspect of our nature. It is vital for our survival. It is key to our success.
The workplace, especially hybrid workforces, are no exception. How connected is your workforce to each other, to the people who lead them, and to the organisation as a whole? To what degree do the employees of your organisation have and perceive a desired number, quality, and diversity of relationships? This is one of the building blocks of your people feeling cared for, valued, and supported.
CONNECT! sessions are a powerful solution to support the physical, mental, and social health of employees.
CONNECT! sessions are an exemplar of relationship-centred practice.
Harness the power of human connection through personal stories.
#ProjectReflectConnect
An award-winning facilitator will create psychologically-safe spaces to CONNECT!
There are four main components of the CONNECT! storytelling service:
- storytellers;
- facilitators;
- audience members; and
- the storytelling sessions themselves.
These happen from a blend of online and face-to-face preparatory activities, depending on you and your organisation's needs.
The CONNECT! Storytelling session
As a facilitator, I help storytellers craft their story in advance of CONNECT! sessions.
The storytelling work culminates with a storytelling session either online or face-to-face, lasting no longer than one hour.
I chair the CONNECT! session as a trained storytelling facilitator.
The storytelling session format:
-
I set ground rules at the start for audience members around psychological safety.
-
Live oral delivery of two to four 5-minute stories by different staff storytellers.
-
I facilitate the interaction between audience members and storytellers, ensuring the nature and tone of the discussion is inclusive, safe, and respectful.
Audience Member
Audience members are staff belonging to the organisation that is hosting the storytelling session. Their role during the first part of the session is to deeply listen to the stories told. During the subsequent facilitated discussion, they are able to share their own perspectives, experiences, and reflections on the stories they have heard.
Storyteller
A staff member from within the organisation who has volunteered or was invited to share a 5-minute story related to an event at work or home. The story will focus on the social and emotional impact of the event. They will be prepared in advance of the storytelling session by me via two x 30 – 60 minute online storytelling consulting sessions.
